In vitro binding ability of ochratoxin A by commercial mycotoxin binders available in Mexico

Abstract

TEN MEXICAN MYCOTOXIN SORBENTS WERE ASSESSED FOR THEIR ABILITY TO BIND OCHRATOXIN A (OA) UNDER IN VITRO CONDITIONS; AS WELL AS EFFICACY OF OCHRATOXIN A EXTRACTIVE METHODOLOGY. HIGH PERFORMANCE LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY (HPLC) WAS USED TO QUANTIFY FREE OA. PH WAS ALSO MEASURED. FROM ALUMINOSILICATES PREVIOUSLY DIGESTED WITH HYDROFL UORIC ACID, CALCIUM, SODIUM, POTASSIUM, ALUMINUM AND SILICON WERE MEASURED BY ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROSCOPY. RESULTS SHOWED THAT MOST BINDERS HAD AN ACTIVITY FROM 0% TO 84%, UNDER IN VITRO CONDITIONS. HOWEVER IT IS NOT RELATED TO PH VALUE. ALUMINOSILICATES HAD LOW CALCIUM, SODIUM AND POTASSIUM CONCENTRATION, WHEREAS SILICON CONCENTRATION VARIED FROM 20% TO 37% AND ALUMINUM FROM 3.1% TO 6.1%. THE RATIO BETWEEN ALUMINIUM AND SILICON CONTENT IS FROM 1:3.5 TO 1:7.4. A NEGATIVE CORRELATION INDEX (R = ”0.27), BETWEEN ALUMINUM/SILICON RELATIONSHIP TO BINDING CAPACITY, WAS OBSERVED.
