Main Article Content
Abstract
IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH THE POSSIBLE PREVALENCE AND DISTRIBUTION OF BOVINES WITH ANTIBODIES TO HAEMOPHILUS SOMNUS IN THE STATE OF CHIAPAS, 787 SERUM SAMPLES FROM THREE GEOGRAPHIC ZONES (CENTRAL, NORTH AND COAST) WERE OBTAINED AND CLASSIFIED ACCORDING TO SEX AND TYPE OF OPERATION (EXTENSIVE OR INTENSIVE). SAMPLES WERE TESTED IN AN IMMUNOENZYMATIC ASSAY (ELISA) DEVELOPED AS PART OF THIS STUDY. FIFTY TWO SAMPLES GAVE A POSITIVE RESULT - 6.6% OF TOTAL PREVALENCE FOR THE STATE. THE HIGHEST SEROPREVALENCE CORRESPONDED TO THE CENTRAL ZONE (15.5%). SEROPREVALENCE IN INTENSIVE OPERATIONS WAS 7.1%, WHILE IN EXTENSIVE ONES THE FIGURE WAS 5.94%. WITH REGARD TO SEX, 5.2% FEMALES AND 23.7% MALES WERE POSITIVE; MOST OF THE LATTER CAME FROM ABROAD. OUT OF 198 FEMALES WITH A REPRODUCTIVE FAILURE, 10 (5.0%) WERE SEROPOSITIVE TO H. SOMNUS, 23 (11.6%) TO INFECTIOUS BOVINERINOTRACHEITIS, AND 17 (8.5%) TO LEPTOSPIROSIS.
