Abstract
CRUDE EXTRACTS OF SPECIMENS OF CULEX QUINQUEFASCIATUS (SAY), BOOPHILUS MICROPLUS (CANESTRINI), AMBLYOMMA CAJENNENSE (FABRICIUS) AND BLATELLA GERMANICA (L) WERE ANALYZED FOR B ESTERASE ACTIVITY USING POLYACRYLAMIDE GEL ELECTROPHORESIS (PAGE). THE CRUDE EXTRACT OF AN ORGANOPHOSPHATE RESISTANT STRAIN OF B. MICROPLUS LARVAE SHOWED DIFFERENCES WHEN COMPARED TO AN ORGANOPHOSPHATE SUSCEPTIBLE STRAIN OF B. MICROPLUS LARVAE. AN INTENSE BAND WAS ALSO SHOWN IN CX. QUINQUEFASCIATUS ORGANOPHOSPHATE RESISTANT STRAIN. ONE BAND OF DIFFERENT MOLECULAR WEIGHT WAS SHOWN FOR THE A. CAJENENNSE LARVAE CRUDE EXTRACT AS WELL AS SEVERAL BANDS IN BLATELLA GERMANICA ADULT CRUDE EXTRACTS. BOVINE SERUM AND BOVINE RED BLOOD CELLS WERE USED AS THE CONTROLS.
